Hey everyone and welcome to week 6.
I hope that everyone’s study break was relaxing/productive/
The Blackstone Careers team were hard at work over the entire Easter weekend compiling and updating the Herbert Smith Freehills Blackstone Careers Handbook for 2013. Having seen it come together I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and I’m eagerly awaiting its launch, which will hopefully be at some point during this week. It will be made freely available on our website to download – and I’ll be sure to let you know when its been uploaded. I would like to especially thank our careers team; Ben Watson, Jordan Duncan-Smith, Arseni Matveev, Baz Iyer and Jessie Poon as well as the countless other committee members who helped out over that weekend to put this beast together. Without them there is just no way it would have happened.
Congratulations to those that were lucky enough to secure tickets to this Friday’s Blackstone Society Cocktail Party. The night is set up to be an amazing event and I’d like to thank our Social VP Bella Tole and the whole social sub-committee for teeing up this event. For those that missed out, don’t despair, for we have the Ashurst Dinner Debate coming up in a few weeks and tickets on sale soon. Be sure not to miss out on those!
On another social front, Prosh is on next week (17th April) and I really encourage all law students to get down and join the Blackstone team in having some fun and selling some papers. You can see our facebook event page here or you can email our awesome Prosh Director Erica Thuijs at prosh@blackstone.asn.au.
I won’t bore you guys anymore, but as always keep up to date with what’s going on in the Blackstone Society by regularly checking our website and facebook pages. Otherwise don’t be afraid to swing by the common room or office and have a chat to any of the Blackstone committee members hanging around.
All the best for your upcoming assignments and exams.
Mitch
Education
There will be a mentoring session run at 6.30pm in Law Lecture theatre on Monday the 8th of April. This session will be presented by two UWA honours graduates with advice on general study skills, research assignments and legal writing. It is sure to come in handy for your upcoming assessments! There will also be food provided, so come eat, mingle with fellow students and soak up the knowledge and tips from UWA’s finest graduates.
Registration for ALSA Conference is still open! Make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to experience two balls, a cocktail party, pub crawl and two theme nights, together with a variety of education, social justice and careers events in the space of a week right here in Perth. For more information, please visit the ALSA Conference website.
Careers
After a week of incredibly hard work, the 2013 Herbert Smith Freehills Careers Handbook will be launching shortly. Stay tuned for more details.
Social
Cocktail Party is this Friday at Canton Lounge on Hay Sy. The event is sold out, so those of you who were organised enough to get a ticket enjoy! Please remember to bring your printed ticket and ID as you won’t be able to get in without either.
PROSH is on April 17. Come down to the Law Courtyard beforehand and join in with the Blackstone theme Lawless. We will most likely be selling papers in the Applecross area again, so come down and contribute to this worthy cause.
