The 2010 Global Courts Conference and workshop is being held in Sydney, December 2nd and 3rd, 2010. This two-day international conference (and associated expert and student workshop) is the major event under a publicly funded research grant from the Australian Research Council.

The theme of this conference is “‘Through the Looking Glass’ – National Engagement with International and Foreign Law and Governance”. The conference will focus upon international, comparative, and national perspectives on judicial and other governmental engagement with international and foreign law.

The conference is designed to attract international and Australian audiences from government, academia, and the broader legal profession (including the courts). The proposed conference sessions have a mix of legal, policy, and practical perspectives on the topic of judicial and other governmental engagement with the global legal order. We are also keen to use the workshop to provide a more focused expert discussion of the grant project’s findings and other
perspectives on the topic, as well as a forum for research degree students to interact with our expert panel.
