Applications now open for the 2013/2014 Jessup International Law Moot Court
Jessup is regarded around the world as the most prestigious competition for law students. Over a period of months, students prepare oral and written submissions addressing legal issues arising from a set of facts concerning public international law matters. UWA has a proud tradition in Jessup and has competed in the competition in the 1980s. UWA teams in the past decade have achieved outstanding results in the national and international rounds of the competition.
In order to be selected for the UWA Jessup Team, you need to be entering your final two years of your law studies in 2014 and have an interest or background in private or public international law. You will be required to demonstrate a history of successfully working in teams. It is also desirable (but not essential) to have completed the Public International Law elective unit and to possess some public speaking or public performance background as well as having a strong record of academic achievement. More information on the selection criteria and FAQs on the competition can be found at http://www.law.uwa.edu.au/
Applications for this year’s team will close on Friday 2 August 2013 at 12 pm (the end of Week 1 of Semester 2). Applications must include a covering letter, a copy of your academic transcript and a curriculum vitae (including two referees, preferably UWA faculty members). The covering letter should address the selection criteria and set out your reasons for wanting to participate. A selection committee comprised of former Jessup Team members and coaches will then prepare a shortlist for interview. Applications should be delivered to the Law School Office, marked for the attention of Chloe Gall, Faculty Advisor.
Information sessions will be held on Tuesday 28 May, Thursday 30 May, Tuesday 30 July and Thursday 1 August at 1pm in the E-Moot Court. In the meantime, if you would like further information please contact the coaches, Chloe Gall, at email@example.com or Rachel Paljetak at firstname.lastname@example.org
