Lucinda Suleski, Social VP

In 2024, the Social Committee will continue to advocate for law students by encouraging community and collegiality through social events. Through these events the Committee will promote connection within the immediate legal field and wider industry. In addition, the Social Committee is enthusiastically assisting in promoting a safe and inclusive culture that will allow law students to excel in their pursuit of excellence.

This year, the Social Committee will vow to ensure that events are developed to foster connections between students. In addition, all events will be ‘safe’ by implementing measures such as Ask for Angela, wellbeing hubs and chill out zones. The committee will plan events that are not alcohol centred in order to increase inclusion and to reinvent law school culture. Lastly, the committee will incorporate student feedback into event planning to ensure that the events hosted are catering to the wants and needs of the people they aim to serve.

If you have any questions please contact Lucinda Suleski, the Social VP.

EVENTS

Some of the Social Committee’s events include:

  • Cohort dinners, which are uniquely tailored to encourage mateship and bonding amongst each year group;

  • Wine and Cheese Night, an informal evening event held on campus to nurture existing associations and stimulate the creation of others;

  • Cocktail Night, a cosmopolitan event which dazzles students from all cohorts with a night of sophistication; and

  • Law Ball, Blackstone’s focal event, held in one of Perth’s premier ballrooms.

#ASKFORANGELA

An initiative which will be enforced at all social events is ‘Ask for Angela’. This initiative promotes safety by enabling guests to ‘Ask for Angela’ if they are feeling unsafe or uncomfortable at an event. Our trained Angelas will then execute a plan to safely guide the guest out of the venue, into a taxi or to a comforting area in the event where they can be counselled. The initiative is not intimidating and is exercised discreetly to ensure the utmost care is afforded to the guest.
