Legal Recruitment Dates in 2012

The four WA law schools have proposed standardised recruitment dates for law firms who are taking on vacation clerks and graduates in 2012. These dates have been compiled as a guidelines – for information specific to a firm, you should contact that firm directly.

Blackstone is currently seeking applications for the following appointed positions. Please email your application of no more than 300 words to email hidden; JavaScript is required by November 25. Applications should briefly outline which position you’d like, why you want that particular position and why you think you’re suited to the role. Except where otherwise stated, there is no prior experience needed for these roles. The 2012 committee strongly supports the idea of an inclusive student society and strongly recommends everyone to get involved, regardless of your prior exposure to the society. These roles offer students an invaluable opportunity to work in a team environment, develop leadership experience, improve their time management and liaise with firm representatives. Committee Positions:

Pre-Law director (senior committee member):

The pre-law director will be responsible for engaging undergraduate students through a variety of medium, including social events and competitions. The role will be somewhat self-defined and will require a motivated and innovative individual with a vision for the role. The pre-law director will also chair an undergraduate sub-committee.

 

Promotions Officer:

The promotions officer will be responsible for co-ordinating all of the society’s promotional activities. This will include, but is not limited to, creating posters and updating the website and facebook pages. Graphic design (poster) skills are essential for this role. Website administration will be taught to the successful applicant by our IT officer.

 

Office bearer positions:

Careers handbook editor and four sub-editors:

The successful applicants should be available to work on the handbook over February.

 

Onyx editor and three sub-editors:

The Onyx editor team is tasked with working with the publications officer to publish three editions of the official Blackstone law journal. Some editor experience is preferred for the position of editor.

 

Publications officer:

The publications officer will work with editors and assist in the layout of publications such as Onyx, the Careers Handbook and Briefs. Graphic design and in-design skills are essential.

 

Equity sub-committee:

The following sub-committee positions are available:

-          Mental health officer;

-          Indigenous students’ representative;

-          International students’ representative;

-          Graduate and mature age students’ representative.

The equity sub-committee will be tasked with the organisation of a variety of equity and social justice initiatives. For more information on the roles, please contact the 2012 Equity VP, Rachel Lee, at email hidden; JavaScript is required.

 

Competitions co-ordinators and organisers:

Co-ordinators will handle the preparation of competition materials, the draw of competitors and other logistics. Organisers work with the co-ordinators to run competitions on the evening, including catering, set-up of rooms and registering competitors. Positions are available for each of the following:

-          Open mooting

-          IHL mooting

-          Negotiation

-          Client Interview

-          Student Paper

-          Trial Advocacy

-          First Year Mooting

-          First Year Trial Advocacy
